The world is full of uncertainty. You look around you and see violence, pain, destruction, and devastation.

You feel overwhelmed, and find yourself paralyzed in both thought and action.

You’re unwilling to accept what is happening in the world. You look around for something–anything–you can control.

You feel alone and unsure, but power through because everything feels urgent.

It isn’t easy to slow down and reflect when the world is literally on fire.

But slowing down just might be the thing that keeps you going in these moments when everything feels impossible.

In fact, my TED Talk, The unexpected way spirituality connects to climate change (released November 10th), presents a spiritual framework to help you slow down, get grounded in something bigger than yourself, and build resiliency, so that you can find the light even in the darkest moments.

Meet your host, Gopal D. Patel
I’m a TED Speaker, faith-based keynote presenter, consultant and environmental activist.

I know this framework works because I’ve lived it.

After graduating college, I set off to explore my own faith and identity. I went to live and study in Hindu Ashrams in India and England.

My teacher taught this framework to me, and he inherited it from his teacher.  You could say it’s Hinduism 101.

When this framework was introduced to me, I was searching for a roadmap to understand how my faith tradition applied to contemporary concerns and how I can make it relevant to my daily life.

It helped me discover that place within myself that I can return to when everything else is out of control–whether in my personal life or in the world.

Over the years, I realized that this framework isn’t unique to Hinduism.

This framework represents the basic building blocks of almost every faith and spiritual tradition.

Faiths are some of the most enduring social movements in the world, so I knew I had a lot to learn from them.

And in my 20+ years working to translate and apply religious teachings and ideas into policy and action that contribute towards the common good… well, I’ve learned a lot.
And that’s why I’m excited to host this conversation with you–so you can deepen your understanding of these practices and principles and receive practical tips and concrete tools for integrating them into your own life and work.

What if I’m not currently involved in social change work?

I believe there will be something for everyone. Truly, this is for anyone who wants to make the world a better place–in big ways or small ways. That’s okay! You’ll still be able to participate in the conversation, and you can always watch my Talk on the TED website.

Yes! There will be time for live Q&A. Ask me about the framework, my personal spiritual journey, or about giving a TED Talk. Anything at all!
